Matriarchs of Australian Fashion with the National Trust

Matriarchs of Australian Fashion with the National Trust

In an industry where women were a powerful and progressive force of creativity, the ‘Matriarchs of Australian Fashion’ is an interactive and insightful catwalk-based experience exploring the stories of the women who called the shots from the 1910s to 1950s.

Of the many affluent and esteemed guests of Como House, it would have been likely that some of the garments being worn would have came from the workrooms of Australia’s most talented female dressmakers and designers.

In an industry where women were a powerful and progressive force of creativity, the ‘Matriarchs of Australian Fashion’ is an interactive and insightful catwalk-based experience exploring the stories of the women who called the shots from the 1910s to 1950s. The Matriarchs whose careers and designs will be showcased include Nan Sanders, Cissie O’Loghlen, Mavis Ripper, Elvie Hill, Jill Kemelfield, Mona Crawford, Dotti Laughlin, Charlotte Blau and Jessie Tait.

Make sure to stick around after the show as the selection of garments from the historical Australian fashion houses will be for sale. There will also be an opportunity to take a house tour before after your sessional talk.
